To prepare the karnataka style rice rava upma with fresh pigeon peas, start by grinding the toor dal, cumin seeds, and black peppercorns coarsely using a mixer grinder. set this mixture aside.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker over medium heat. add the mustard seeds, chana dal, and urad dal, and let them crackle.
Stir in the red chillies, asafoetida, and curry leaves, and allow them to splutter.
