To prepare this flavorful chettinad style green peas masala, start by steaming the green peas until tender. set them aside.
In a dry pan, lightly roast all the spices (chana dal, poppy seeds, garlic cloves, ginger, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom pods, and fennel seeds) over medium heat until aromatic.
Add the grated coconut to the pan and continue to roast until it turns a light brown color. allow the mixture to cool down.
Once cooled, grind the roasted spices and coconut mixture into a smooth paste by adding a little water in a mixer grinder. set the paste aside.
In a separate pan, heat the sunflower oil. add ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and ground cardamom to the oil and let them splutter.
