To prepare maharashtrian style rice flour buttermilk porridge, whisk the buttermilk with rice flour until there are no lumps.
Heat oil in a wok or pan, and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. let them splutter.
Once they splutter, add curry leaves, green chillies, and asafoetida. carefully pour in the water.
Add salt and sugar, and bring the mixture to a boil.
Now, gradually add the rice flour slurry while stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
