Wash rice and masoor dal and soak them together for 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker. add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies, asafoetida, and curry leaves.
Add onions and garlic to the cooker and saute for 2 minutes until they turn translucent.
Add tomatoes to the cooker and mix well.
Stir in salt and turmeric, and mix well to combine the spices.
