To prepare the spicy onion fritters, start by making the besan (gram flour) batter. in a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, carom seeds, asafoetida, and salt.

Gradually add water to the dry ingredients and mix well to form a thick batter that can thickly coat the back of a spoon.

Set the batter aside for later use.

Heat oil in a kadai or deep frying pan over medium heat for frying the onion fritters.

Slice the onions into roundels and separate the rings.
