To begin making the spicy roasted yam with coconut masala, pressure cook the yam pieces with 1/4 cup of water, 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, and salt for one whistle. set aside.

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and add mustard seeds. allow them to splutter.

Stir in the asafoetida and curry leaves and saute for a few seconds.

Add grated coconut to the pan and roast for about a minute until it turns golden in color and releases its aroma.

Now, add the red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and sambar powder. saute for a few seconds.
