To make the coconut-moong dal bottle gourd curry (south indian style sorakkai kootu), combine moong dal and chopped bottle gourd in a pressure cooker with a little water.
Close the cooker with a lid and cook until it releases 4 whistles.
Once the pressure is released naturally, add grated coconut, cumin seeds, and red chilli powder into a mixer grinder and grind into a coarse paste.
Stir in this coconut-cumin paste into the cooked bottle gourd and dal mixture.
Cook for an additional 2 minutes and then turn off the heat.
