Rinse the moong dal thoroughly and pressure cook it with water and turmeric powder for 3 to 4 whistles, until the dal is soft and mushy.

Stir in salt and adjust the consistency by adding water as required.

In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds. let them crackle.

Add finely chopped onions and fry until they turn light brown. now, add grated ginger, minced garlic, chopped green chilies, and dry red chili. saute for half a minute.

Add the chopped tomatoes and saute until they soften.
