To prepare the coconut cucumber rice dumplings (southe gatti), start by washing the idli rice thoroughly and spreading it on a cloth to dry.
Grind the dried rice in a mixer until you get a smooth powder. set it aside. also, grind the coconut to a coarse mixture.
In a bowl, mix the ground rice, coconut, grated cucumber, and jaggery. you should achieve a batter-like consistency that drops easily.
Prepare a vegetable steamer for cooking. if you prefer, you can use rectangular pieces of banana leaf or parchment paper to wrap the dumplings.
If using a banana leaf, place a portion of the batter in the center and fold the leaf tightly. if using parchment paper, shape the batter into rectangular parcels.
