To prepare the spicy lentil sloppy joes, start by soaking the masoor dal (red lentils) for at least 2 hours and then pressure cook them with 1 cup of water and a pinch of salt for about 3 whistles. allow the pressure to release naturally.
Drain any excess water from the cooked lentils and keep them aside.
In a saucepan, heat oil and saute minced garlic and chopped onions until the onions turn translucent.
Add tomato puree, red chili sauce, sugar, and cumin powder to the pan. stir and cook the mixture for 2 minutes.
Now, add the cooked lentils to the saucepan along with some salt. continue stirring until the gravy thickens. once done, turn off the heat.
