To prepare the spicy black chickpea delight, start by washing and soaking the black chickpeas (kala chana) overnight.
The next morning, place the soaked black chickpeas in a pressure cooker with water and cook for 25 minutes over medium heat.
After 25 minutes, turn off the heat and allow the pressure to release naturally. drain the water and set the cooked chickpeas aside.
To create the spice mix, heat a small pan over medium heat. dry roast the red chilies, cloves, cinnamon, star anise, coriander seeds, fennel seeds, poppy seeds, cumin seeds, and dried coconut until fragrant. this should take about 5-7 minutes. turn off the heat and let them cool.
Transfer the dry-roasted spices to a mixer jar and grind them into a fine paste by adding a little water.
