To prepare the spiced carrot and lentil soup, start by washing the red lentils and soaking them for about 5 minutes.
Cut the carrots, onion, red bell pepper, and celery into small chunks, and finely chop the ginger and green chilli.
In a medium saucepan, heat sesame oil and add cumin seeds. allow them to sizzle for about 15 seconds.
Stir in the chopped ginger and green chilli, letting them cook for another 15 seconds.
Add the chopped onion and celery, sauteing them for about a minute until they start to soften.
