To prepare avarekai and semolina upma, start by dry roasting the semolina (sooji) in a pan over medium heat until it turns golden brown. set it aside.
In a separate saucepan, combine 3 cups of water and the avarekalu (lilva beans) along with a pinch of salt. bring it to a boil and then turn off the heat.
Drain the water from the boiled avarekalu and set them aside.
In another saucepan, heat 3 cups of water and keep it hot.
In a pan, heat sunflower oil over medium heat and add mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, and cumin seeds. allow them to splutter.
