To prepare the tangy hog plum delight, start by washing and lightly scraping the skin of the hog plum (amtekai).
Cut the hog plum into pieces while retaining the seed.
In a saucepan, combine the hog plum pieces (including the seed), water, jaggery, and turmeric powder. bring it to a brisk boil.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer until the hog plum becomes soft. the seed will absorb the flavors and spices during cooking, adding a wonderful taste.
In a small pan, heat a few drops of oil and add urad dal, chana dal, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, dried red chillies, and asafoetida. roast them until the dal turns golden and the red chillies become crisp.
