To prepare the south indian pepper cumin rasam, start by extracting the tamarind pulp and dilute it with 3 to 3-1/2 cups of water to create tamarind water.
In a saucepan, heat ghee over medium heat and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. allow them to crackle.
Add the curry leaves, crushed black peppercorns, cumin powder, black pepper powder, turmeric powder, tamarind water, and salt.
Stir the mixture and let it briskly boil for 3 to 4 minutes until the raw taste of tamarind water disappears.
If you find the rasam too tangy, you can adjust by adding more water, pepper, and cumin.
