Wash the arhar dal thoroughly and soak it in water for about 30 minutes. drain and set aside.

Heat 1 tablespoon of clarified butter (ghee) in a large pot or pressure cooker. add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle.

Add the ginger and garlic, and saut„© for a couple of minutes until they release their aroma.

Stir in the chopped tomato and cook until it becomes soft and mushy.
