Wash the whole green moong dal thoroughly and soak it in water for about 4-6 hours or overnight. then, drain the water and set aside.
In a pan, heat mustard oil over medium heat. add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add finely chopped onions and saute until they turn golden brown.
Next, add crushed garlic cloves, grated ginger, and finely chopped green chillies. saute for a minute until the raw aroma disappears.
Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
