Heat a frying pan and add oil.
Prepare a tempering (tadka) by adding urad dal, chana dal, mustard seeds, curry leaves, and a pinch of asafoetida (hing). fry for about a minute.
Add soya flakes to the pan and stir well.
Pour water and add salt. cook until the flakes become soft to touch. remove from heat.
Allow the mixture to cool for 10 minutes.
