To prepare the filling for the custard buns, take custard powder, milk powder, coconut milk, eggs, and condensed milk in a bowl. whisk the mixture until it becomes smooth and lump-free. add melted butter and whisk again.
Grease a plate or container suitable for steaming. pour the custard mixture through a sieve into the container to ensure there are no lumps. preheat a steamer with water until it starts bubbling.
Carefully place the container with the custard mixture inside the steamer and steam for 12-15 minutes. after steaming, fork up the custard thoroughly and mash it slightly with the back of a spoon. allow the custard to cool to room temperature and then shape it into small balls. refrigerate the custard balls until ready to use.
For the bun dough, grind black sesame seeds into powder and add it to the all-purpose flour in a bowl.
In a separate bowl, activate the dry active yeast in lukewarm water with sugar. add vegetable shortening to the flour and mix in the activated yeast water. knead the mixture into a soft and supple dough.
