To create the flavorful chana dal delight, first wash and soak the chana dal in water overnight or for at least 4 hours.
After soaking, drain the water and in a pressure cooker, combine the chana dal with 2 cups of water. add turmeric powder, garam masala, red chilli powder, tamarind powder, and jaggery to the dal mixture.
Pressure cook the dal for a couple of whistles. once the whistles are done, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes before turning off the heat.
Allow the pressure to release naturally.
The chana dal grains should be soft yet retain their individuality.
